A Fraction Calculator
for Woodworkers
(and anyone else needing to do fraction calculations)
an iPhone app
This app came into being because Jim's fraction calculator was beginning to show signs of functional abuse (i.e., it's tough living with the dust in a full-time woodworking shop).
Using the Calculator
The calculator works like a simple decimal calculator, except that it allows and presents numbers as fractions. When entering whole numbers only, you can override the fraction mode by adding a decimal point to one of your numbers.
Entering fractions is a two or three part process:
Entering a three part fraction like 1 2/3
- Tap the One (1) button. The number '1' is displayed.
- Tap the Fraction (a b/c) button. A dot (•) is displayed.
- Tap the Two (2) button. The number '2' is displayed after the dot.
- Tap the Fraction button again.
- Tap the Three (3) button.
- The fraction displayed will look like this:
1•2•3
- After tapping an operator key ('+', '-', etc.), the fraction looks like this:
1 2/3
Entering a two part fraction like 4/5
- Tap the Four (4) button. The number '4' is displayed.
- Tap the Fraction (a b/c) button. A dot (•) is displayed.
- Tap the Five (5) button. The number '5' is displayed after the dot.
- The fraction displayed will look like this:
4•5
